Many Hawaiians call Las Vegas home, to the point we are sometimes called the Ninth Island. And that means we have some genuine cuisine which has been given the Las Vegas twist. So, if you are interested in some tropical fare that draws the best from across the Pacific while respecting its own deep traditions, or just want to give your support to those wanting to protect a sacred site, here are some options that will leave you feeling you’re on vacation.
Aloha Kitchen
There are five Aloha Kitchen locations in Las Vegas, each serving up a popular breakfast menu that is a real hit among students. Though they have some really terrific Filipino food, their banana pancakes with vanilla cream sauce, and corned beef hash are a great way to have a Hawaiian day. Most tourists will miss this, since they will be busy with the Strip, but it is a true local gem that offers great flavor at a low, low cost. I mean, even students can afford it.
Aloha Specialties
Located in Downtown Las Vegas at the California Hotel, this is a bit of a local landmark that has served the Hawaiian community and given them something of a second home. There are many Hawaiian options on-hand, but we prefer Aloha Specialties for our breakfast. Anything with spam is a real winner. You may also enjoy the gentle theme of the restaurant, with wicker chairs and appropriate tropical décor. Take your time, unwind, and know that you are getting a much better deal than at Margaritaville.
Kapuna Cafe
This simple fast casual restaurant serves breakfast all day. If that’s not enough, their mochi pancakes, spam, and eggs are a great and simple cure for too much Vegas fun. You might meet some colorful people at certain hours, but you can all be united in having a great taste of the islands.
Cinnamon’s
Do you like Eggs Benedict? Well, you will love Kalua Pig Benedict. The sweet and tender pork is the right topping to just about anything, including an English muffin. Sit back, have an order or two, and enjoy a beer. This is what Las Vegas is truly about.
