End of an age as Céline Dion wraps up residency

Céline Dion, pop music icon and Las Vegas institution, has wrapped up her residency at Caesar’s Palace Coliseum in Las Vegas.

For neigh unto 16 years, the show has been thrilling audiences, with 1,141 performances, and more than 4.5 million attendees.

This is actually the second of her residencies. The first began March 25, 2003 and went through to Dec. 15, 2007, with over 700 performances, and her second premiered in March 15, 2011.

The finale this Saturday featured a new song by Céline Dion, “Flying on My Own.” From her album, Courage, this special debut was a treat for those who could not wait until the November release.

This is a bittersweet moment. René Angélil, the 51-year-old singer’s husband and manager died in 2016 after a battle with throat cancer. He was 73 and had been married to Dion for 22 years. Her grief and personal experience is evident in this farewell, and marks an important moment in her life.
