Las Vegas and the electric scooter

Electric scooters are now subject to government regulation after Governor Steve Sisolak signed Assembly Bill 485 into law. Counties and cities can now create their own ordinances governing the placement and use of electric scooters.

Las Vegas had this to say on electric scooters: “We have and will continue to allow electric scooters to be rented from store fronts where they are checked-out/in from the same location. However, companies that allow scooters to be left anywhere - streets, sidewalks, etc. - have not been licensed.”

San Antonio and Austin have allowed dock-less electric scooters, and their residents have raised safety concerns about their positioning and clutter.

Although they provide a valuable service to pedestrians, and help alleviate both traffic and pollution, they pose their own difficulties and problems. It is clear they can be a nuisance, and are frequent targets of vandalism and abandonment.

Nevada has also set the age for electric scooters at 16, drawing some criticism from a minority.

It is not known if this will impact future companies providing electric scooter service to Las Vegas.

And the trade war shows no signs of letting up. Recent deals between Taiwan and the U.S. for war $4 billion worth of materials is likely to add fuel to the fire.
