  • Las Vegas and the electric scooter

    Electric scooters are now subject to government regulation after Governor Steve Sisolak signed Assembly Bill 485 into law. Counties and cities can now create their own ordinances governing the placement and use of electric scooters. Las Vegas had this to say on electric scooters: “We have and will continue to allow electric scooters to be rented from store fronts where they are checked-out/in from the same location.   • Construction for Golden Knights arena commences

    The Henderson Convention Center is being demolished to make room for a new NHL facility to serve the Golden Knights. Scheduled to open in July 2020, the building is expected to be called Vegas Golden Knights at Henderson. Practice will continue at the City National Arena, but the new facility will provide additional youth hockey programs. Sporting two NHL-sized rinks, a restaurant overlooking the ice, and improved services, the new facility will serve the growing community of Henderson. Read more…
  • Bail set for Hasean Quinn in Las Vegas strip mall shooting

    Bail for Hasean Quin has been set for $25,000 by the presiding judge this Friday. The 24-year-old man is charged firing a weapon inside the Fashion Mall this Memorial Day. Though assault charges were dropped, prosecutors are expected to pursue one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied structure. Lisa Rasmussen, Quinn’s lawyer, declined to comment. The shooting occurred just after 6 pm Monday at the Strip mall, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. Read more…

    The Burning Man Festival has enjoyed three decades of tradition in the desert, growing from a simple ceremony into an international event. But all that might change as they face new demands by government. Without their latest permits, the festival will not continue. Government agencies are asking for major changes, including installed trashcans, cement bollards, and an environmental impact study.   • Lady Gaga on display in opening night at Haus of Gaga Las Vegas Exhibition

    Little Monsters were surprised as Lady Gaga posed with fans at her Haus of Gaga exhibit in Las Vegas. Such items as the pop superstar’s meat dress and elaborate costumes were featured in the museum exhibits. Adjacent to the performer’s Strip home, the Haus has opened just this Thursday at the Park Theater in Park MGM. Costumes, wigs and accessories from the Oscar and Grammy winner are tastefully presented and curated. Read more…
  • Local resident lucky

    Las Vegas local resident Christiene H. had a holiday weekend to remember. Her winning roll on the 25-cent Wheel of Fortune Triple Stars machine at Sam’s Town, 5111 Boulder Highway, won $221,463.46. It sure brought a smile to her face. According to an International Game Technology spokeswoman, the winning roll came in at 1:10 pm Saturday. Earlier this Thursday, another lucky player managed to walk away with a $300,000 jackpot, making this the second big win on Wheel of Fortune machines within a week. Read more…
  • Lyft wins with Las Vegas autonomous taxi

    Self-driving vehicles have arrived and are operating in Las Vegas. The Aptiv 30 BMW 5 Series running Lyft’s driverless technology have become a staple of Las Vegas, completing over 50,000 unique rides. The vehicle uses Lyft’s program with various sensors, cameras and computers, and has successfully reached its first, full year of service. Aptiv said the autonomous vehicles serve customers at over 2,100 locations in the Las Vegas Valley, including hotels, entertainment venues, restaurants, and popular destinations throughout the Las Vegas Strip and downtown area, including City Hall and the Las Vegas Convention Center.   • The Intrigue closes at the Wynn

    The Intrigue Nightclub, part of the Wynn Nightlife experience, will be terminating operations Saturday. The 14,000-square-foot venue will be available as private event space accommodating up to 750 people. The closure is part of a number of recent changes slated for the property. It is not known if other entertainment venues at the Wynn will be affected.

    Galaxy Theatres is making waves this year by introducing a new big screen theater, the largest in all Las Vegas. Combining all-laser projection and the best of Sony Digital, the new venue provides state-of-the-art luxury. With 4K picture and Dolby ATMOS sound, few other theaters will compare.     Now called the Strat, it is time to take a look at changes with the former Stratosphere hotel-casino in Las Vegas. An iconic property on Las Vegas Boulevard, the Stratosphere has suffered on the North Strip. Golden Entertainment has looked to make updates and improve marketing, hoping they can get some buzz with a new name. Steve Arcana, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Golden Entertainment said, “The Stratosphere is a Las Vegas icon, so in acquiring the property we chose to preserve that quality while also reimagining the resort through a comprehensive remodel that spans from the tower to the main casino floor.
