Bernie Sanders in Las Vegas

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke to crowds in Las Vegas this past Saturday, July 6, making the most of National Fried Chicken Day in what some are calling his National Fried Chicken Day Address. His revolutionary topics targeted opponents from pharmaceutical and fossil fuel companies to wealthy political donors. He even spoke out against members of the Republican and Democratic parties.

“We are taking on virtually everyone,” Sanders said to his Las Vegas supporters.

Sanders, a popular presidential candidate following his bid in 2016, explained that they were a movement working to take down the wealthy establishment.

“The one percent has enormous wealth and power. But you know what we’ve got? Ninety-nine percent is a hell of a lot bigger number than one percent.”

This was Sanders fourth visit to Nevada this year, a strategic state in the Democratic primary battle.

Sanders spoke at length at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church in West Las Vegas. The historic black neighborhood has provided popular support to the Senator. However, the audience on Saturday was predominately white.

Covering a variety topics, Sanders also spoke out against wealthy political donors, including Sheldon Adelson, a Nevada casino magnate and billionaire.

“We need a political system that is not controlled by the Sheldon Adelsons of this world.”

It is not clear if Mr. Adelson will respond.
